Is this…? Could it be? Heaven?

Here’s a spot roughly 100 km outside of Mexico City.

It’s both a far cry from many Americans’ vision of Mexico – no tumbleweeds. no desert, a Seattle-like consistency of rain every day mid-summer* – and a far cry from what exists inside the capital, roughly an hour and a half away. Most days in the Distrito Federal, smog clogs the air and any sense of topography vanishes. But on a clear day like today, you could see the rim of the mountains all around the city. And you had the sense, that maybe once upon a time, it looked like the image above (minus my pant leg in the corner). More photos below…

* I’ll admit though, we did see some ponchos and cowboy hats. There were also some burrrrrrrrrrrrros.
